First blog post, recapping out 5 day trip to Las Vegas on the last week of January 2022

Tuesday

7:30am United flight – leave on time and land early!!

We opted to check in early at 11am to the MGM Grand for an additional $40. It’s worth it as we don’t have to wait even though it’s 10:30. Room 20322. A bit of frustration dealing with the iPhone key (more than one trip up and down and up the elevators) but it eventually worked. But just to be suuuure, we picked up two keys at a self service station (first time experience).

We drop our bags and decide to walk to McMullan’s Irish Pub. It’s really windy but we make it ok. Google maps was Taking us everywhere except straight. Pierre finally switched to Apple Maps with much better results. We are starving, sit at the bar and the beer and food – meatloaf sandwich and fish and chips – don’t disappoint. This place pretends to have the largest selection of Irish whiskey in the US.

We take Lyft back as walking there was enough. Pierre picks up two waters for $13.

Rest up and then we’re off again. Walk across the street to New York New York and it’s time to stop for happy hour at Il Fornaio $7 cocktails a bargain!! Lynn has the Tuscan lemonade and Pierre chooses the maestro.

The aforementioned Maestro!

Next stop the Losers Bar – yes we are losers $4 at Wheel of Fortune!! And there is also live country music. There seems to be many more guys that are losers then women…. Hummmmmm

Dinner is a splurge (the first of many as it turns out) at Morimoto where Pierre gets his sushi fix. Good to have come but probably will not come back. Lynn has really good sticky ribs!! Pierre has 3 rolls: spicy salmon, neghihamachi and neghitoro, along with a glass of Jordan Chardonnay. Sushi is awesome, but not particularly inventive, nor is there a great selection of fish. Pierre started to watch him on the Japanese (ie original) version of Iron Chef, with Fukui-san and Hattori-san narrating; subtitles provided! Allez cuisine!

So ends the day ……
